HILO, Hawai'i – Alyssa Padron pounded in the lone goal of the game in the 39th minute as the No. 5 Hawai'i Hilo Women's Soccer team edged Westmont, 1-0, Thursday afternoon in Pacific West Conference play on a wet Vulcan Soccer Field.
Teani Arakawa took a corner kick from the nearside of the field and it deflected off the Warriors goalkeeper's hands for Padron to clean up and power-kick in for her sixth score of the season.
It was a physical battle between the two teams with five total yellow cards issued out.
Phoebe Barnes and Courtney Linn combined for the team shutout — the seventh clean sheet posted by the Vulcans this season. Linn entered the match in the 54th minute and made two saves.
The Warriors entered the match unbeaten in league play. This season is their first competing in the PacWest Conference.
It was the first full match through rainy weather since home matches began play on the all-turf Vulcan Soccer Field at the start of the 2022 season.
With the victory, the Vulcans extended their regular-season unbeaten streak to 35 games dating back to Oct. 3, 2021.
