Volleyball Stunted by Sea Lions in Straight Sets

Hawai‘i Hilo fell to top-conference contender Point Loma in second-round action.

SAN DIEGO, California – The Hawai'i Hilo Women's Volleyball team opened its final road trip of the season in Southern California with a straight-set loss to top-conference contender Point Loma Friday evening at the Golden Gymnasium in second-round Pacific West Conference action.

After taking the Sea Lions to the limit in a narrow two-point five-set loss in late September, the Vulcans were taken down, 3-0, by scores of 16-25, 22-25 and 20-25.

Hawai'i Hilo played PLNU tough, winning the battle upfront at eight blocks to five while closely matching the Sea Lions in digs and errors.

Kamryn Childs assisted on five blocks, Isabella Hadaller added three and a solo while Emerson Reinke pitched in three block assists.

The Vulcans were held to .058 hitting as no players reached double-digit kill figures.

Torina Hommes led PLNU with 11 kills on .455 hitting.

Hawai'i Hilo moved to 9-11 overall (6-6 PacWest) while Point Loma moved to a 13-0 conference record (16-4 overall).

The Vulcans will continue in Southern California taking on Biola (Oct. 28), Concordia University Irvine (Oct. 30), Westmont (Nov. 1) and Azusa Pacific (Nov. 4).

Hawai'i Hilo will then return for its final two home matches of the regular season, hosting Dominican (Nov. 8) and Academy of Art (Nov. 9) — the latter of which will be Senior Night celebrating the Vulcans' two departing seniors.
