HILO, Hawai'i – Fifth-year senior Andrew Rehedul headed in his third goal of the season but it wouldn't be enough as the Hawai'i Hilo Men's Soccer team fell to HPU, 2-1, Saturday afternoon in Pacific West Conference action at the Vulcan Soccer Field.
It was the first match back on the home turf after a four-game road slate, including just days prior when the Vulcans traveled to O'ahu for a non-conference tilt with the Sharks.
Leandro Weingartner factored into both of HPU's two first-half scores, the first on a penalty kick in the 11th minute after drawing a foul inside the box. Weingartner later connected with Jonathan Sorto to add on a 21st-minute goal.
Rehedul got the Vulcans going in 53rd minute with his fifth career score on a header with the assist from Colby Lee off a yellow-card free kick.
Hawai"i Hilo come up short on a handful of equalizing opportunities as HPU managed to hold on for the one-score win.

Hawai'i Hilo moved to 5-5-0 (2-2-0 PacWest) while HPU moved to a 3-7-2 (1-3-0 PacWest) record.
The Vulcans will have five straight home contests before the regular-season finale on O'ahu against Chaminade. The next home game is Monday, Oct. 16 against Biola.

The 2023 slate will feature 15 total home matches at the Vulcan Soccer Field with a package price of $30 for adults and $25 for seniors (ages 65-plus) and middle/high school students.

PACWEST HAWAI'I CHALLENGE
In an effort to elevate Hawai'i-based rivalries, the PacWest Hawaii Challenge has awarded the top school in athletics competition among the state's Division II institutions going back to the late 1970s.
Comprising 10 sports that all three schools participate in, points are awarded from head-to-head Pacific West Conference matchups as well as final placements at conference-ending meets and events. At the conclusion of each sport's season, the team with the highest total gets three points while the second-highest gets two and the third-place finisher receives one.
