Volleyball Drops Four Setter to Westmont

Hawai‘i Hilo took the opening set but dropped the last three to the Warriors.

SANTA BARBARA, California – After taking the opening set, Westmont took the next three as the Hawai'i Hilo Women's Volleyball team fell to the Warriors, 3-1, Wednesday evening in Pacific West Conference action at Murchison Gymnasium. Set scores were 25-21, 24-26, 19-25 and 21-25.

The Vulcans battled through nine ties and six lead changes to edge the Warriors in Set 1 as Raelee Samio put down five kills (.444).

Set 2 was just as competitive while ultimately being the turning point in the match as Westmont managed to escape from tied scores at each of 20-all through 24-24 before a block and an ace evened the match at two sets apiece.

Momentum swung in Set 3 as the Warriors opened with five consecutive points before the Vulcans later snapped back on a seven-point run, but Westmont came back with four scores and managed to take nine of the last 11 points for the lead. The Warriors then closed out the match with a victory in the fourth set.

The two teams previously met Oct. 20 in Hilo with the Vulcans claiming victory in four sets.
