LA MIRADA, California – With the calendar counting down toward the end of the year, the Vulcans found the magic touch in the final minutes of their last game of 2023 as the Hawai'i Hilo Women's Basketball team splashed five 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to shoot past Biola, 74-67, Saturday evening at the Chase Gymnasium to kick start the first leg of four Pacific West Conference road contests.
It was the first action for the Vulcans after a 12-day break as they kept pace with the Eagles to take a three-point lead heading into the final 10 minutes of play. Jeniece Harmon, Kamalu Kamakawiwoole and Melanie Hiu hit from long range to open the fourth quarter after previously going just 4 of 15 (.266) as a team from beyond the arc.
Following a timeout, Biola got right back into the game after managing to put through consecutive 3-pointers to stay within striking distance. Kamakawiwoole and Kaile Cruz added another pair of perimeter baskets to keep the Eagles at bay. Keirstyn Agonias and Cruz later hit on free throws in the final minute to close out the victory for the Vulcans.
Agonias snatched a game-sealing steal in the waning seconds as the sophomore posted a career-high 22 points on 9-of-11 shooting to go along with three steals. Kamakawiwoole finished with 12 points and four takeaways.
