HILO, Hawai'i – The University of Hawai'i at Hilo Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has named Spencer Honda as Sports Information Director after a nation-wide search.
Honda has served as sports information director in the interim since July 2022 and will continue to oversee the HiloAthletics.com website, game day coverage, media relations and digital/social media content creation for the Vulcans athletics department and its 12 varsity sports teams.
"I'm grateful for the opportunity to continue working in my home state of Hawai'i," Honda said. "I'm excited and look forward to further helping advance Hawai'i Hilo Athletics in any way I can."
The O'ahu-native arrived to the Big Island last summer after last working as assistant sports information director at Keystone College, an NCAA Division III institution in northeast Pennsylvania. He was hired through the NCAA Division III Ethnic Minorities and Women's Internship Grant.
Prior to that, Honda worked in local sports media covering Hawai'i high school sports for ScoringLive.com. He also assisted with production of live video streaming for Chaminade University of Honolulu Athletics.
Honda becomes the department's third SID following the late Kelly Leong (1989-16) and Russ Blunck (2016-21). Billi Derleth also served in an interim role for the 2021-22 school year.
