HILO, Hawai'i – Gabriel Gallardo put in two second-half goals to power the Hawai'i Hilo Men's Soccer team past Multnomah, 3-2, Wednesday afternoon at the Vulcan Soccer Field in the first competition of the 2023 season.
After a tied 1-1 score at the end of the first half, Gallardo was successful on his penalty-kick attempt to put the Vulcans ahead in the 51st minute. Fifteen minutes later, the junior added a much-needed insurance goal assisted by Aidan Santos and Bryan Schraier.
Multnomah got a score back with a successful PK in the 80th minute, but Hawai'i Hilo prevailed to take the exhibition victory over the NAIA-Lions.
Junior transfer Shawn Clarke netted the first goal for the Vulcans early in the fifth minute as Jaime Cantalejo de Dios and Camilo Vegara had the two scores for the Lions.

The game counted as an exhibition for Hawai'i Hilo, keeping its record at 0-0-0.
Multnomah (NAIA) moved to a 1-1-0 record.
The Vulcans are back in action Thursday, Aug. 31 for their first official match taking on Western Oregon on O'ahu at the Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
First home match is set for Sept. 10 against San Francisco State.
