HILO, Hawai'i – A late score by Brian Trujillo put the Vulcans within striking distance, but time ran short as Hawai'i Hilo Men's Soccer fell to Menlo, 2-1, Tuesday afternoon in Pacific West Conference play at the Vulcan Soccer Field.
Menlo netted scores in the sixth (Johan Mendoza Aguilar) and 57th minutes (Mattia Celant) before the Vulcans found the back of the net with Trujillo connecting from Felix Drizinsky in the 84th minute.
The Oaks move into second place in the standings, one point behind unbeaten Point Loma (5-0-1), as the Vulcans move into a three-way tie at No. 6.

Hawai'i Hilo moved to 2-3 in the PacWest (7-4 overall) as Menlo moved to a 5-1 conference record (7-3-1 overall).
The Vulcans will head to Southern California for a four-game road trip: Vanguard (Oct. 19), Azusa Pacific (Oct. 21), Biola (Oct. 24), Westmont (Oct. 26). Hawai'i Hilo will return for a two-game home stand to close the regular season, hosting Fresno Pacific (Nov. 2) and Chaminade (Nov. 9).
The top four teams in the regular season standings will qualify for the inaugural PacWest Conference Championships set for Nov. 14-16 at the Orange County Great Park in Irvine, California.
