HILO, Hawai'i – No. 22 Hawai'i Hilo Women's Soccer (12-1-3, 9-1-1 PacWest) closed out the regular season with a 4-0 victory over Chaminade (6-5-5, 5-3-3 PacWest) Saturday afternoon at the Vulcan Soccer Field.
The Vulcans finished the conference season at No. 2 in the final standings behind defending national champion Point Loma. Last week, Hawai'i Hilo wrapped up one of four spots in next week's inaugural PacWest Championships postseason tournament.
Teani Arakawa continued to add to her program-leading scoring numbers with a pair of goals (13', 16') and a pair of assists. The reigning D2 CCA All-West Region Player of the Year brought her season points total to 31 to move to a tie at No. 2 with Megan Pachecano (2008) for most in a single season by a Vulcan — Adele Litro had 33 points in 2008.
Filippa Graneld, the program's all-time second-leading points scorer (57), also added a goal (53') and an assist Saturday afternoon. The Vulcans all-time assists leader (21) moved to No. 4 on the career goals list (18).
Jazlynn Ellis, another senior, closed the scoring with a goal in the 54th minute and moved to No. 7 and No. 8 in the Vulcans record books for career points and career goals, respectively.
No. 22 Hawai'i Hilo finished the regular season at a 12-1-3 overall record, 9-1-1 PacWest. Chaminade ends at 6-5-5 overall (5-3-3 PacWest).
PACWEST CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Vulcans finished the conference season with 28 points to land at a tie at No. 2 in the standings with Concordia. Tiebreaker procedure via goal differential gave the Vulcans the advantage for the No. 2 seed in the upcoming PacWest Tournament in Irvine, California. CUI (9-1-1) will be No. 3 with Point Loma (10-1-0) and Westmont (9-2-0) at No. 1 and No. 4, respectively.
OTHER NOTES
- Phoebe Barnes made three saves to record her 12th shutout as a Vulcan (20th overall). It's her ninth of the season, tied for most in a single season by a Vulcan (Jenna Hufford in 2013). Barnes also moved up to No. 7 in program saves (76), surpassing Viviana Polli's (20-22) mark of 74.
- Alyssa Padron assisted on Arakawa's second score in the 16th minute, moving to No. 4 all-time in the Hawai'i Hilo record books with 12 total.
- Ninth-year head coach Gene Okamura notched career win No. 75.
- Currently, Arakawa is ranked No. 1 in Division II for shot accuracy (.789).

AMONG THE BEST: Hawai'i Hilo came in at No. 22 in the United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25 Week 9 Poll released last Tuesday. The Vulcans also moved to No. 4 in the West Region poll.
NCAA WEST REGION: Hawai'i Hilo came in at No. 4 in the latest NCAA West Regional Rankings released last Wednesday. In addition to the three conference champions in the west region (PacWest, GNAC, CCAA), the top four remaining teams in order of the final rankings will be selected for further postseason play. The teams will be unveiled with the NCAA Selection Show, Nov. 18 at 2 p.m.
