INDIO, California – Nicholas Gomez finished one-under to lead the Hawai'i Hilo Men's Golf team in individual competition at UC Davis' The Prestige this past week at The Golf Club at Terra Lago.
Gomez, who also helped lead the Vulcans at the Amer Ari earlier this month, shot round scores of 71, 74 and 70 for a five-way tie at No. 11 among a field of 61 individual golfers from 21 NCAA Division-I schools.
The overall event featured 26 Division I teams competing in team play at the nearby Greg Norman Course at PGA WEST in La Quinta, California.
Texas Tech claimed wins in both events, taking the team title along with the top spot in the individual circuit. Charlie Delong shot seven-under at Terra Lago while Kansas' Cecil Belisle shot minus-16 to finish first in the team competition.
Hawai'i Hilo will stay in Southern California and return to Division-II competition at next week's Battle In The Desert hosted by Cal State San Bernardino at the Rams Hill Golf Club in Borego Springs.
