HILO, Hawai'i – After the Vulcans claimed victory in the first two games of the series, Point Loma evened it out with two wins in Saturday's Pacific West Conference doubleheader at Francis Wong Stadium. The Hawai'i Hilo Baseball team fell, 8-3 and 4-2.
The plague of defensive errors was flipped from the Eagles to Vulcans as Day 1 of the series saw Biola commit a combined seven errors to none from Hawai'i Hilo. In Saturday's rematch, the Eagles put out a clean sheet while the Vulcans combined for four defensive miscues.
GAME 3: BIOLA 8 - HAWAI'I HILO 3
- With the score tied, 1-1, heading into the top of the seventh inning, Biola managed to bring the bats alive for seven hits to drive in seven runs — four of which were unearned.
- Hawai'i Hilo began to rally in the bottom of the eighth, starting with a lead-off double by Bryce Tweedt. After the next batters were put out, the Vulcans strung together back-to-back-to-back base hits to plate two runs, cutting the deficit to 8-3.
- Vulcans got two runners on in the final frame of play, but that would be it as Cody Hirata was tagged with the loss, giving up five runs (two unearned) in 1.1 innings of work. Ty Honda was also charged with two unearned runs.
- Hawai'i Hilo pitchers also gave out seven free passes to first base while Biola surrendered just two.
GAME 4: BIOLA 4 - HAWAI'I HILO 2 (7 INNINGS)
- Aaron Davies went the distance for the seven-inning complete game, scattering eight hits for four runs (two unearned) and allowing just one walk. He also notched seven strikeouts, making it 15 total in the last two games for the lefty.
- Vulcans were held to just two hits.
- Chasing three runs, Hawai'i Hilo threatened in the final inning by rallying with two outs to load the bases. Reece Kadota was beaned to bring one run across the plate, but that would be all as Biola walked away with the doubleheader sweep and series split.
