HILO, Hawai'i – Vintage Hilo rains struck throughout Sunday, causing a cancellation of both scheduled men's and women's tennis matches between Hawai'i Hilo and HPU.
That didn't stop the celebration for the Vulcans' 10 senior student-athletes — five for the men and five for the women — Lamar Bartley, Ryo Minakata, Luca Matheiowetz, Cian McDonnell, Jacob Gailey, Satoho Toriumi, Nanami Okamoto, Julia Barden, Hikari Osaki and McKenna Mountain.
"All of our seniors play a crucial position for our teams," sixth-year Hawai'i Hilo head coach Kallen Mizuguchi said, making note of Matheiowetz and Osaki as four-year players. "Some players were here for just a couple seasons and already added so much value to the team. Some have been here 3-4 years and have been able to watch as both programs have increased in level and even win a championship."
