COSTA MESA, California – KeanuMarie Huihui once again posted a career-high-tying 19 points on five 3-pointers, but it wasn't enough for the short-handed Hawai'i Hilo Women's Basketball team as it fell to Vanguard, 77-52, Monday evening in Pacific West Conference play at the Freed Center.
It was a close battle through the early goings of the contest as Hawai'i Hilo took its lone lead of the night with a 3-pointer by Kaile Cruz at the 4:29 mark of the opening quarter.The Lions managed to return the favor with a 3-pointer just seconds later and continued to maintain a short advantage on the scoreboard until a 10-0 run midway through the second quarter opened the game up.
Hawai'i Hilo committed a season-low eight turnovers. The Vulcans splashed seven 3-pointers (.318), but overall shot just .270 from the field against .542 by the Lions.
Hawai'i Hilo moved to 1-7 in PacWest play (3-11 overall) as Vanguard moved to a 9-1 conference record (11-5 overall).
OTHER NOTES
- Vulcans regular starters Caiyle Kaupu and Mindy Kawaha again missed out on game action for a second consecutive contest.
- Hawai'i Hilo remained at No. 13 in the PacWest standings with Azusa Pacific (10-1) at the top. Vanguard is currently slotted in at a tie for No. 2.
