IRVINE, California – Freshman KeanuMarie Huihui continued to put points in, racking up a new career-high 28 points, as Hawai'i Hilo Women's Basketball dropped a last-minute nail-biter, 64-62, Thursday evening in Pacific West Conference play at the CU Arena.
Huihui finished 11 of 16 from the field (.688) with 4 of 6 from long range, including putting in eight points in the fourth quarter. The lead swapped three times through the final three and a half minutes of action as CUI managed a 10-3 run to squeak ahead for a one-point lead with seconds to go. The freshman got the final look for the Vulcans, but her shot attempt with single-digit ticks remaining came up empty as the Golden Eagles managed to hold on to split the season series.
Hawai'i Hilo held control through the early goings with a 10-0 first-quarter run as Huihui started hot with 13 points in the opening 10 minutes of play. The second half featured five tied scores and nine lead changes.
Noelle Su'a-Godinet also posted a new career high, totaling 17 points along with seven boards and three steals.
Hawai'i Hilo moved to 1-8 in PacWest play (3-12 overall) as Concordia moved to a 2-9 conference record (3-15 overall).
OTHER NOTES
- The Vulcans attempted just seven 3-pointers, their fewest total on the season, but also posted a season-high .571 three-point percentage.
- Huihui's 11 field goals ties eight other performances for second most baskets made in a single game in program history.
- Keirstyn Agonias collected four boards to move to a tie with Sara Shimizu (18-22) at No. 9 all-time in the Vulcans record books with 320 career rebounds.
- Hawai'i Hilo moved to No. 14 in the PacWest standings with Azusa Pacific and Vanguard at the top with 10-1 conference records. Concordia moved to No.13.
