Volleyball Sweeps Westmont for Seventh-Straight Win

HILO, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Hilo Women's Volleyball made it a clean sweep of the weekend with a 3-0 win over Westmont (25-22, 25-23, 25-22) Saturday evening in Pacific West Conference play at the Vulcan Gymnasium.

Malu Garcia hit .357 for 14 kills along with six total blocks. Isabella Freeman totaled 10 blocks (one solo) with seven kills (.235).

While the Vulcans' hitting percentage of .212 was their lowest in the last six games, the Warriors were held to just .086 — the seventh lowest by an opponent this season.

Hawai'i Hilo is now on a seven-match win streak and will hit the road toward Northern California for a three-game slate before returning home for the regular season finale on Nov. 12 against Menlo.

OTHER NOTES

  • Emerson Reinke moved to No. 9 in the program record books with 899 career assists — surpassing Josimara Pinheiro (2007-2009).
  • Reinke remained at No. 2 in the NCAA Division II rankings with 937 assists on the season — sitting behind Flagler's (Florida) Clare Sheedy (938 assists).
  • Isabella Freeman's season total of 121 total blocks now ranks in a tie for ninth most in a single-season by a Vulcan — tied with Cheriesse Shiroma (1997).
  • Freeman ranks No. 4 in NCAA Division II for total blocks (121). East Stroudsburg's (Pennsylaniva) Anna Coulter leads with 133 total blocks.
  • Hawai'i Hilo is currently in a two-way tie for third place (tied with defending champ Chaminade) in the PacWest Conference standings behind unbeatens Point Loma (7-0) and Fresno Pacific (6-0).
