HILO, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Hilo Women's Basketball closed the 2024-25 season with a 62-57 victory over HPU on Saturday afternoon in Pacific West Conference play at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.
It was a fairly back-and-forth affair with neither team's lead reaching more than single digits. The Vulcans reached a nine-point advantage but the Sharks managed to put together a 7-0 run to make it a two-point differential coming down to the final seconds. HPU opted to foul to send the Vulcans to the free throw line but KeanuMarie Huihui and Caiyle Kaupu hit their shots to seal up the win.
Kaupu totaled 15 points and nine rebounds while Jazmine Soto, Huihui and Erica Ingram each finished with 11 points.
Hawai'i Hilo finishes the season at 6-14 in PacWest play (8-18 overall) with HPU at a 6-14 conference record (10-16 overall). Both teams finish No. 10 in the PacWest standings.
Following the contest, departing Vulcans seniors Caiyle Kaupu, Jazmine Soto and Erica Ingram were honored on Senior Day.
OTHER NOTES
- The Vulcans' win created a three-way tie among the Hawai'i Hilo, Chaminade and HPU women's basketball teams as they each went 2-2 in head-to-head matches against one another. All three teams will receive the max three points to go towards the overall PacWest Hawai'i Challenge score. At the end of the winter season, Chaminade now leads both Hawai'i Hilo and HPU by a single point.
