HILO, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Hilo Baseball continued to show its fight in a seven-inning doubleheader split with Azusa Pacific on Friday afternoon in Pacific West Conference play at the James "Jimmy" Correa Ballfield at Francis Wong Stadium.
After getting a literal walk-off win against APU on Thursday evening, the Vulcans logged a consecutive unorthodox walk-off with a bases-loaded balk in the bottom of the ninth inning for the 5-4 victory. The Vulcans battled tough in the nightcap, narrowly falling, 2-0.
Hawai'i Hilo moved to 3-8 in the PacWest (5-11 overall) as Azusa Pacific moved to an 8-7 conference record (10-11 overall).

GAME 1: AZUSA PACIFIC 4, HAWAI'I HILO 5 (9 INNINGS)
- APU plated the first run of the game in the opening frame with a bases-loaded walk before going down back-to-back on strike three to minimize the damage. The Cougars added a pair of unearned runs in the second inning with a sacrifice fly and a solo home run.
- Braeden Mondeau drove in the Vulcans first run with an RBI double in the bottom of the second. Hawai'i Hilo tied the game at 3-all with a four-hit rally — all singles — in the bottom of the third as Mondeau drew ball four with bases loaded to bring across the tying run.
- Chasing a run and down to their final at-bats, the Vulcans capitalized on two walks with Cody Min cashing in for a RBI single to send the game to extra innings.
- Noah Lane led off the bottom of the ninth with a base hit and moved over to third base on a subsequent sacrifice bunt and ground out. After intentional walks to Min and Mondeau loaded the bases, APU pitcher Jake Vargas — who entered at the top of the half-inning — tossed pitch No. 5 to Reece Kadota but was called for a balk to end the game.
- Freshman pitcher Xavier Pressley recorded a consecutive win after entering in the top of the ninth and retiring the side. Braden Lowe (1.2 innings) and John Navarro (2.1 innings) also helped keep the Vulcans within striking distance in combining to toss three scoreless innings of relief work.
GAME 2: AZUSA PACIFIC 2, HAWAI'I HILO 0 (7 INNINGS)
- Vulcans were shutout for the first time this season, notching six hits while leaving six runners on base — four of them in scoring position.
- APU managed to plate both runs in the fourth inning, rallying on two outs for back-to-back doubles followed by consecutive base hits. Lowe entered out the bullpen once again and battled through a nine-pitch full count to minimize damage with an inning-ending backward 'K.'
