WAIPAHU, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Hilo Baseball dropped a four-game series to HPU this past weekend in Pacific West Conference play at the Hans L'Orange Field. Vulcans were defeated by scores of 8-5, 4-2, 15-8 and 16-14.
While the Vulcans belted three home runs in the weekend series — highlighted by Noah Lane's grand slam on Sunday — the Sharks managed to total nine hits out of the ballpark with the final nail ending the series as the Sharks capped a nine-run comeback with a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the ninth.
Hawai'i Hilo matched a season high of 15 hits in the series finale with Cody Min and Nate Gray Jr. tallying up three hits each. Min blasted a three-run homer in the second inning as Gray knocked a two-RBI double in the fourth.
Braeden Mondeau tallied seven hits (.412) and six RBI over the weekend with a three-run home run in the top of the seventh of Saturday's second game of the doubleheader. Mason Cook also racked up six RBI on six hits (.462).
Hawai'i Hilo moved to 7-21 in PacWest play (9-25 overall) as HPU moved to a 21-11 conference record (23-15 overall). Vulcans are slotted in No. 11 in the conference standings with HPU at No. 4.
