IRVINE, California – Hawai'i Hilo Women's Volleyball rattled off back-to-back wins this weekend with a four-set victory over Concordia (25-23, 16-25, 25-16, 25-23) in non-conference action Saturday evening at the CU Arena.
The Vulcans hit .318 with three players in double-digit figures: Malu Garcia (15 kills, .375), Alohi Garcia (11 kills, .241) and Isabella Hadaller (11 kills, .259). Chase Koepke (nine kills, .471) and Isabella Freeman (eight kills, .368) each had just one hitting error.
Concordia managed to place 13 service aces — tied for most in a single-game by a PacWest team this season.
OTHER NOTES
- After taking a five-point advantage at 23-18 in the opening set, CUI threatened and managed to pinch together five of the next six points before Malu Garcia closed it out with her fifth kill of Set 1.
- The second set saw Concordia manage to break free from a nine-all score by taking 12 consecutive points.
- Vulcans broke free from a 12-12 score in Set 3 by taking 12 of the next 13 points — eight kills (five by Malu Garcia), a block and an ace — and finishing with a .452 percentage.
- Hawai'i Hilo finished the match strong by taking seven of the final nine points — three kills and a block by Freeman.

Following the Vulcans' Oct. 4 match against Chaminade at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium, the University of Hawai'i at Manoa Men's Volleyball team will hold an intrasquad scrimmage. The team will also hold a photo session opportunity earlier in the day at Big Island Candies.

PACWEST PRESEASON POLL
Hawai'i Hilo was voted No. 4 in the Pacific West Conference Preseason Coaches Poll released earlier this week. The Vulcans finished 2024 in a four-way tie for fourth place. 2025 will feature the inaugural four-team PacWest Conference Championships postseason tournament hosted by Chaminade on O'ahu (Nov. 20-21).
