BELLINGHAM, Washington – Hawai'i Hilo Men's Golf's Jacob Torres outlasted three other golfers in a playoff to take the individual win at the Western Washington University Invitational at the Bellingham Golf & Country Club this week to cap the Vulcans' season-opening trip to the Pacific Northwest.
Torres shot rounds of 67 (-5), 70 (-2) and 72 (E) to finish minus-7 overall, tying with Simon Fraser's Denby Carswell, Vanguard's Fisher Ransom and UBC Okanagan's Ryan Vest. The four played through a playoff on Holes 16-18 with Torres capturing the win on a par finish on Hole 18.
Hawai'i Hilo placed seventh in the team standings (+12) with Simon Fraser taking the top spot at 14 shots under par.
Torres' victory marks back-to-back individual medalist winners for the Vulcans after Ben Crinella opened the season with a 10-under score to win the Saint Martin's Bishop Invitational at The Home Course (DuPont, Washington) last weekend.
