HONOLULU, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Hilo Men's Tennis earned its first win of the season with a 5-2 victory over HPU on Saturday at the UH Manoa Tennis Complex on O'ahu.

The Vulcans previously fell to the Sharks twice by narrow scores of 4-3 two weeks ago in Hilo.

This time, the Vulcans secured the early lead by taking the doubles point with wins on Court 2 (Angel Fonseca + Sergi Tintore) and Court 3 (Filippo Di Perna + Jaime Paquet) before snatching singles wins on Court 1 (Paquet), Court 5 (Tintore) and Court 2 (Max Solano) to wrap up the match victory. Iori Furuhata also claimed a win on Court 6 by winning a third-set seven-point tiebreaker by 7-2.

Paquet (Court 1), Solano (Court 2) and Furuhata (Court 5/6) have opened the season undefeated in singles play.

Hawai'i Hilo was set to take on Biola on Sunday morning, but the match was suspended and ultimately canceled due to inclement weather. The Eagles had managed an early lead by winning the doubles competition and each singles match had gotten through one set of action before constant rain throughout the remainder of the day caused unplayable court conditions.

At the time of suspension, both Paquet and Solano were up one set on Courts 1 and 2, respectively.
