Hamada Named PacWest Conference Men's Soccer Scholar-Athlete

CALIFORNIA – Hawai'i Hilo Men's Soccer's Koki Hamada was named Pacific West Conference Men's Soccer Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Hamada (Tokyo, Japan) recently wrapped up his collegiate career after earning a Bachelor of Business Administration with the conclusion of the spring 2026 semester. The four-year starter on the Vulcans Men's Soccer team posted a 3.72 cumulative grade point average.

Last fall, Hawai'i Hilo made program history by making its first NCAA postseason appearance and claiming a victory in the NCAA Super 4 Regional First Round with a 3-2 victory over Western Oregon. Hamada was named PacWest Conference Defender of the Year, an All-PacWest First Team defender and to the United Soccer Coaches All-West Region First Team. He also earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-America Third Team and United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America accolades.

Seventeen total student-athletes — representing 15 sports of baseball, men's basketball, women's basketball, men's cross country, women's cross country, men's golf, women's golf, men's soccer, women's soccer, softball, men's tennis, women's tennis, men's track & field, women's track & field and women's volleyball — were honored for their excellence both on and off the field of competition. Honorees were nominated and voted on by the PacWest Conference's college sports communicators.

Men's soccer and women's basketball each had two recipients. Hamada shared recognition with Menlo's Martin Fiala.

Hamada is Hawai'i Hilo's first PacWest Scholar-Athlete of the Year since Daelenn Tokunaga (women's soccer) and Bria Beale (women's volleyball) for the 2021-22 school year. Tokunaga was later voted as the overall PacWest Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

2025-26 overall male and female Scholar-Athletes of the Year will be chosen via vote by the conference's athletics directors and announced next week.
