HILO, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Hilo Athletics has added athletic trainer Chris McBride as the newest member of the Vulcans Sports Medicine staff.

McBride joins the Vulcans with more than a decade of athletic training experience across professional hockey and collegiate athletics.

"I'm excited for this opportunity to join Hawai'i Hilo Athletics," McBride said. "I want to thank the Sports Medicine staff and Vulcans Athletics department for welcoming me in. I'm looking forward to working with the student-athletes and coaches and continuing to grow as part of the staff."

McBride arrives to the Big Island after most recently serving as an athletic trainer with Hawai'i Pacific University (2021-2026) on O'ahu. Prior to coming to Hawai'i, he worked with the Ontario Reign (2015-2020), a professional ice hockey team in California and the American Hockey League affiliate for the LA Kings.

McBride earned a bachelor's in Kinesiology – Exercise Science from California State University, Northridge in 2012 and a master's in Athletic Training from California Baptist University in 2015.

As a student, he worked with programs at CSUN, Santa Barbara City College, Cal Baptist, UC Riverside, University of Redlands and in the Riverside Community College District.

"Chris is a great addition to our Sports Medicine staff," Hawai'i Hilo head athletic trainer Kensei Gibbs said. "He brings a wealth of experience from both the professional and collegiate levels, and his background will be a great asset to our student-athletes and coaches as we continue to grow the department."

McBride joins Gibbs and Kelsie Espiritu-Tanabe as the staff's third athletic trainer.
