BELLINGHAM, Washington – Hawai'i Hilo Women's Soccer fell to No. 24 Simon Fraser, 3-1, in non-conference play Saturday afternoon at Western Washington's Harrington Field.
Diana Garcia netted the Vulcans' lone goal of the contest and the first of the season in the 21st minute with an olimpico goal, curling a corner kick directly into the net to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Simon Fraser had managed to jump ahead in the opening minutes with Dariella Lopez scoring in the fourth minute before Sarah Caravatta snuck in another less than two minutes later. Kiera Scott, who had assisted on Caravatta's goal, was able to put the match away in the 82nd minute to reach the final score.
The Vulcans totaled 14 shots with six on goal. Hawai'i Hilo was not credited for any shots-on-goal two days prior in the season opener against host No. 18 Western Washington — whom the Vulcans fell to, 2-0. Both WWU and Simon Fraser were voted No. 1 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference preseason coaches poll.
