KAHUKU, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Hilo Women's Cross Country opened the 2026 season with a runner-up finish at the Big Wave Invitational (5K) on Saturday morning at the Kahuku Golf Course.
The Vulcans finished ahead of Pacific West Conference foes HPU (third) and Chaminade (fourth) and behind host UH Manoa (Division I), which swept the top five individual placements.
Kathleen Raab and Sequoia Gonzales led Hawai'i Hilo at the front crossing seventh and eighth with times of 20:25.5 and 20:30.3, respectively. Sam Morinaga followed in at No. 10 (20:59.2). All three runners finished ahead of both the top runners from either HPU or Chaminade.

PACWEST CONFERENCE PRESEASON POLL
Hawai'i Hilo was voted No. 6 in the PacWest Conference preseason coaches poll. The Vulcans finished No. 7 at last year's conference meet held on O'ahu. The 2026 PacWest Championships are set for Nov. 8 in Rocklin, California hosted by Jessup University.
