If there was ever a number to get stuck on it was 65 for the University of Hawaii at Hilo in an 84-71 loss to Brigham Young University-Hawaii in a Pacific West Conference match in the UHH gymnasium.

The Vulcans (15-10 overall, 7-7 PacWest) trailed for most of the second half until Lavell Shipman's short jumper and Josh Morgan's break-away layup gave the Vulcans a 62-59 lead.
After the Seasiders (16-6, 11-2) knotted the game at 62, Dirk Snel's second trey of the night put the Vulcans at 65.
Over the next four-and-a-half minutes, the lid shut on the Vulcans as they were caught in a 15-0 Seasider run that ended when Andrew Gipson hit a short jumper with a minute and 53 seconds remaining in the game.
“We worked hard and got up three,” said UHH Head Coach Jeff Law. “Then we kind of got complacent for a second and we had a couple of turnovers and bad shots.
“In that short span they hit a couple of threes. We lost the lead and lost it quick. We really didn't handle ourselves well in trying to regain or stop their momentum and that was a huge part and time in the game that we didn't handle it well.”
Justin Smith had an 18-point, 12-rebound performance while Zach Wilde added 13 points. Gipson added 11 points and Snel had 10.
“Justin played a great first half,” said Law. “Their whole second half philosophy was make other people beat you. Justin couldn't get looks and then we got frustrated and they hit some big shots when they had to.
“They played soft and we didn't shoot the ball well.”
