Vulcans share PacWest Crown and claim NCAA AQ

The University of Hawaii at Hilo has a share of the 2013 Pacific West Conference Crown but more importantly claim the automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division II West Regional at a site to be determined.

The Vulcans swept Hawaii Pacific University 7-2 and 3-0 in the final season series to finish 39-17 overall and 25-7 in the PacWest. Tied with Dixie State in the final conference season tally, the AQ decision came down to a series split with Notre Dame de Namur who had swept the Red Storm.

Melanie Morelos' grand slam capped a 7-run, 4-hit first inning in game one. The Vulcans produced just eight hits in game one with Kristina Victa picking up two hits and Rebecca Lee three.

Hannah Peterson upped her season record to 6-1 with a 7-hit complete game performance.

In game two, Ashley Nelson tossed the 6-hit, 4-strikeout shutout over six innings for her 14th win of the season.

Colleen Aubrey and Brandi Wilson collected two hits each while Wilson picked up two RBI.

The Vulcans last claimed the PacWest crown when they did it back-to-back in 2005 and 2006.
