HONOLULU, Hawai'i –
Patrick Ball had his fourth-consecutive double-digit scoring game as the University of Hawaii at Hilo fell 86-67 in an exhibition with NCAA Division I University of Hawaii in the Stan Sheriff Arena.
The freshman guard tallied 20 points for the first time this season. He was 7-of-15 shooting from the field which included three 3-pointers. He was also 3-of-3 from the free throw line and grabbed four rebounds.
"He did well," UH Hilo Head Coach
GE Coleman said. "He does a good job of going with the flow of the game and nothing phases him. No moment seems too big."
Vandyon Lockett added 13 points on 4-of-7 shooting with a trio of 3-pointers and a pair of free throws. He also had three rebounds and three assists.
The Vulcans had a great night at the freethrow line hitting 13-of-14 shots (92.9 percent) but a cooler night from the field with 22-of-57 shots (38.6 percent) finding the bottom of the net.
Conversely, the 'Bows were 10-percent better from the field hitting 36-of-74 shots (48.6 percent) but struggled at the free throw line with only 7-of-13 shots counting on the scoreboard.
Aaron Valdes led the 'Bows with 33 points on 15-of-20 shooting from the field with three treys. The 6-foot-5 guard also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
Isaac Fleming added 17 points and
Stefan Jovanovic 10 going 5-for-5 from the field.
The Vulcans kept it close in the first half hitting 7 3-pointers inluding three by Ball. He also hit one at the halftime buzzer to make it 44-33 at the break.
UH Hilo stays on Oahu for the next few days for PacWest play with games against Chaminade University on Thursday, December 10 at 7:30 p.m. in McCabe Gym in Honolulu and Brigham Young University-Hawaii on Saturday, December 12 in a 7:30 p.m. game in the Canon Activity Center.
