No. 15 Otters blank Vulcans, 7-0

Box Score TURLOCK, Calif.—Playing their second top 15 team in a span of six hours, the UH Hilo Vulcan softball team fell to Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday night at the Tournament of Champions, 7-0.

The Vulcans, who lost earlier in the day to No. 7 ranked Chico State 4-2, fell to 14-18 on the year with the loss to the No. 15 Otters. Cal State Monterey Bay is now 25-4 on the season.

CSUMB scored three runs in the second inning, three in the fourth and one more in the fifth against two Vulcan pitchers.  The Otters had 12 hits in the game, three by Lusi Stanley. Hayley Fein tossed the shutout, scattering five hits, walking one and striking out nine Vulcans.  The ace improved to 15-3 on the season. No UHH player had more than one hit and all were singles.

It won't get any easier for UH Hilo tomorrow morning, when they take on No. 2 nationally ranked Humboldt State. Start time is 9 a.m. Pacific. They play host also Stanislaus State at 2 pm and will partake in another pair of games on Sunday before returning home from a two-week trip to northern and central California.
