Vulcan Gym Gets Shiny Upgrade

HILO, Hawai`i--When the Vulcan Volleyball Day Camp kicks off next week, young area volleyball players will step on to a gym floor at the University of Hawai`i Hilo Gymnasium that looks as good as new.

That's because in many ways, it is.

The floor is in the final sealing phases of a project that began in early May, worked on by IPR Hawaii. The Honolulu-based company sanded the entire floor down to the wood, repainted the lines, updated the logos (Vulcans, PacWest, NCAA) and refinished the floor. They also replaced all the base boards.

"IPR Hawaii did a great job," said Associate Athletic Director Kula Oda. "The floor looks great and we are hopeful that the new surface will require much less upkeep and daily maintenance in order to keep the playing surface safe and clean for our student-athletes."

The floor will be ready to go for the volleyball camp (July 19-21) and the Vulcan Basketball Camp the following week (July 24-27). The Vulcan volleyball team will be the first UHH squad to take advantage of the new court when they report for practice on August 13.

"We are looking forward to rolling out the new floor for our volleyball and basketball camps," Oda added. "It's a great look that all of our teams will enjoy."
