SAN ANTONIO, Tex.—In another match that was much closer than the team score would indicate, the Hawai`i Hilo Vulcans won their third straight match with a 4-0 victory over Auburn-Montgomery (Ala.) on Thursday at the Anne Marie Tennis Center.

The No. 7 ranked Vulcans improved to 5-1 on the season, while the Warhawks are now 4-4. UH Hilo's only loss this season was to No. 1 Barry (Fla.).

The Vulcans won a doubles match in a tiebreaker (Chun En Wu and Martin Soukal), lost in a tiebreaker (Alan Cincunegui and Luca Checchia) and the No. 1 team of Vaclav Slezak and Alessandro Giuliato claimed the team point with a 6-3 win.

In singles play, Slezak rolled and was the first player off the court with a 6-2, 6-2 win to give UH Hilo a 2-0 lead. Soukal was the next victor with a 6-3, 6-4 triumph, and Giuliato improved to 6-0 in singles with a 6-4, 7-5 clincher.

Two of the other matches were in the third set (Cincunegui and Checchia), and En Wu was locked up in a battle in the second set. Those matches go down as unfinished.

The Vulcans wrap up their Texas trip on Friday with a 9:30 am (Central Time) match against St. Edwards (Tex.). The Hilltoppers are 9-3 on the year.
