NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.—The Hawai`i Hilo men's tennis team put up wins all across the board in posting a 4-0 victory over Concordia on Tuesday afternoon at the Tennis Club of Newport Beach.

The Vulcans are now 7-2 and the Eagles are 8-5. Next, a showdown looms on Wednesday between UH Hilo and Azusa Pacific, the two squads that played for the Pacific West Conference title in 2018. The match in Azusa between the Cougars and Vulcans will begin at 2:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, the Vulcans won all three doubles matches and the top three players on the singles ladder won to clinch the match.

Vaclav Slezak and Alessandro Giuliato improved to 6-2 on the year at No. 1 doubles with a 6-1 win, while Martin Soukal and Chun En Wu moved to 8-1 on court two with a 6-3 victory. Luca Checchia and Alan Cincunegui finished moments later on court three with a 6-3 triumph.

In singles, Giuliato was the first finisher on court two with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Nakita Katsnelson. Giuliato is now 8-0 on the year and has not dropped a set. Slezak had a similar result on court one (6-2, 6-3) over Yassine Smiej and Soukal took down Daniel Reddmann on court three, 6-3, 6-3. Slezak is 7-2 in singles and Soukal is 6-1.

Wu was two games away from a victory at No. 4 singles (7-5, 4-1), as was Arturo Dell`Eva on court six (6-2, 4-3). Checchia was leading 6-4, 3-3 when the team score was clinched.

Wednesday's match between the No. 20 Vulcans and No. 21 Cougars will be the first meeting between the two squads.
