Rayla Jacobs-Kea led off the rally with a triple to right field, and
Maria Steadmon became a base runner after being hit by a pitch and then stealing second. Domingo followed with a two-run single to chase home Jacobs-Kea and Steadmon to give put the Vulcans up, 3-0.
The Lumberjacks got one run back in the bottom of the fourth, helped by two Vulcan errors. Meanwhile, Derleth continued to work out of any trouble that she got in to, including in the fifth when an HSU single and walk led to a stolen base attempt at home, that the Vulcans snuffed out—until the seventh when she needed Mejia's help.
Mejia and
Vevesi Liilii each had a pair of hits in the game for UHH, who had six total. One of Mejia's hits was a two-bagger.
Having been on the road since March 19, the Vulcans now return home to face Hawai`i Pacific in a key PacWest doubleheader on Saturday (April 6). Start time is noon.
