SURPRISE, Ariz.—One down, two to go.
The Hawai`i Hilo men's tennis team took the first step in their bid to win a conference title by defeating Biola on Thursday morning at the Pacific West Conference Championships, 4-0.
The Vulcans did so in a quick and efficient one hour and 30 minutes. They captured 6-0 (court one) ad 6-2 (court two) victories in doubles to gain the team point, and then grabbed straight set wins in singles on courts one, three and four.
Vaclav Slezak and
Martin Soukal were double victors on the day, winning in both singles and doubles. Slezak improved to 11-3 on the season and Soukal moved to 11-1 with the win.
Chun En Wu was the first singles finisher, rolling to a 6-3, 6-0 triumph on court four.
The No. 17 nationally ranked Vulcans improved to 11-3 on the season and will move to Friday's semi-finals (9 am Pacific) against the winner of the Point Loma-Azusa Pacific match.
