What attracted you to UH Hilo?
It has always been a dream of mine to play golf at the collegiate level and I knew that I wanted to go away for college. UH Hilo has allowed me to do both. It is also very comforting to know that home is a 50 minute plane ride away. This is perfect because I am away from home, but not too far away.
Tell us a little bit about your hometown and where you grew up. What did you like to do when you were young?
I grew up in Mililani on the island of Oahu. When I was young, I wanted to learn how to play the ukulele. So my parents sent me to the Roy Sakuma studio in Mililani. I would go once a week and I loved learning new songs and playing them. Now I enjoy picking up my uke in my spare time and learning songs off of the internet.
Who is one person you look up to and why?
I look up to my grandpa the most. He has always encouraged and supported me from a young age. He also plays golf so we have been golf buddies ever since I was seven. He saw the potential that I had and he would take me to the range, come with me to my golf lessons, and would take me to play on the course. Golf has allowed us to create a great relationship. Fun fact, he has not only taught me how to drive a golf ball but he also taught me how to drive a car!
