Ask a Vulcan---Questions and Answers with UHH basketball player Tom Power
We miss seeing our Vulcans on the courts and playing fields, but here is another way to get to know them a little better. Our subject today is men's basketball player Tom Power, who has played in every game for the Vulcans since arriving on campus from New Zealand in the fall of 2018. The Cambridge native took the time earlier this week to answer a few questions.

What attracted you to UH Hilo? Â
What attracted me to Hilo was definitely the amazing environment and set up of the University at Hawaii Hilo. I think that Hilo is such a unique place and somewhere you are able to enjoy not just the school but also the athletics and definitely the beaches.Â
Tell us a little bit about your hometown and where you grew up. What did you like to do when you were young?
I'm from Cambridge, New Zealand. When I was young I would always have different sports throughout the week, but on weekends I would hang out with friends and go do something with my family. Our favorite family activity was to head to Rotorua and go mountain biking in a world class mountain bike park.
Who is one person you look up to and why?Â
I think I would have to say both my Mum and Dad are people I look up to. I have seen them work very hard to provide better opportunities for not just themselves but the people around them.Â

What is your favorite part about being a student-athlete?Â
I'd say the best part of being a student-athlete is being able to experience both sides of the college. Being able to travel on the road and make memories with your teammates but also making sure that you are constantly working towards the end goal of a degree is tough but a challenge I enjoy.Â
