WAIKOLOA, Hawai`i--No. 1 nationally ranked Pepperdine rallied back on the final day to edge Texas for the team title at the 29th annual Amer Ari Intercollegiate men's golf tournament, held at the Waikoloa Kings' Course.
The Waves shot a molten hot 18-under par on Saturday to slip past the Longhorns, who were -9 for the day. Pepperdine finished -39 for the tournament, with Texas at -37, Arizona State -36 and defending champion Oklahoma State at -35.
Pepperdine's William Mouw took home the medalist trophy, winning a one-hole playoff over ASU's Mason Andersen. Both finished the tournament at -13, with Mouw shooting a 64 (-8) on the final day and Andersen a 65. Finishing tied for third in the tournament was U.S Amateur champion Andy Ogletree of Georgia Tech (-12) and Oklahoma State's Aman Gupta.
Three of the top four ranked teams in the country played in the prestigious tournament, which was co hosted by UH Hilo and UH Manoa. No. 2 Georgia Tech finished sixth at -33 and No. 4 Texas Tech was seventh at -28. Defending NCAA champion Stanford was 15th (+4).
The Vulcans had a 306 on day three of the tournament, after turning in scorecards of 298 on Thursday and Friday.
Andrew Otani was UHH's top player for the three days with a -2 score 214 (69-71-74).Â
