UH Hilo's 2019-20 senior class did not get a proper send off because of COVID-19. While some were able to have a Senior Day, all of them missed their Athletic Senior Sash Ceremony and official Graduation Ceremony.
Over the course of the next few months, we will highlight our seniors, two at a time. Instead of the Pepsi Athletes of the Week, it's now Pepsi Seniors of the Week. This week, we salute tennis standouts Arturo Dell`Eva and
Marina Colvee.
Arturo Dell`Eva could return for another senior year because of COVID-19, but also graduated last month and has returned home to Italy. Dell`Eva was 2-3 in the shortened 2020 season in singles and 3-2 in doubles when his career came to a halt. As a sophomore in 2018, after transferring from Division I St. Francis, he went 10-5 in singles and was ranked as high as No. 51 nationally. He was 4-5 as a junior (2019) with many matches "unfinished", but won regional matches against Azusa Pacific and a match at the NCAA tournament against USC-Aiken (7-5, 6-4). He leaves Hilo with a 16-13 career mark in singles. The Costermano, Italy native graduated with a 3.74 grade point average in his dual major of Business Administration/Finance and Busines Administration/Marketing.
The lone senior on women's tennis roster,
Marina Colvee, could return for another senior year, but also graduated in the spring and is undecided as to whether or not she will return to Hilo. The Spain native transferred to UH Hilo after playing one season at San Diego State, and played three years with the Vulcans. Her best season was in 2018 when she finished 10-6 in singles. As a junior and senior, she played mostly on court one in singles. She was 9-7 in doubles as a junior. The 6-foot-1 Denia, Spain native is a Pacific West Conference Scholar Athlete and graduated with a degree in Marine Science.
