HILO, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Hilo Men's Tennis opened its season at home dropping back-to-back heartbreakers to HPU, both by scores of 4-3, on Saturday and Sunday morning at the UHH Tennis Courts.
The Sharks managed to take the doubles point to start each match off, but the Vulcans rumbled back in singles competition as Jaime Paquet and Max Solano claimed victories on Courts 1 and 2, respectively.
On Saturday, Angel Fonseca took a two-set victory to put Hawai'i Hilo one win away from clinching the match, but it ultimately came down to Court 6 as Matthieu Wehner narrowly fell in three sets.
Sunday's match followed a similar formula with the deciding point coming down to Court 3 as the Sharks again managed to eke out the win in a narrow three-set defeat over Filippo Di Perna.
