HILO, Hawai'i --
It was in the 77th minute where the Vulcans made their lasting impact. Daelenn Tokunaga found her teammate Christina Kanellou open from across the box. Kanellou, after receiving the pass from Tokunaga quickly volleyed the ball into the Eagles' net, successfully finding a hole. Kanellou's goal gave the Vulcans the 1-0 lead which ended up being the match's final score.

UH Hilo will continue to ride their now four-game winning streak, improving 8-3 overall and 5-1 in the PacWest conference while the Eagles fall 3-4-3 overall and 2-1-1 in the PacWest.

Today's match was special for the UHH soccer team for a couple reasons. First off, it was the Vulcans first game since their week long break after a very successful 4-0 Northern California road trip. Secondly, it was the Vulcans first game at home with fans.

UH Hilo out-shot Concordia Irvine 13-5, three of which were on goal to CUI's two. The Vulcan shot leaders were Tokunaga with five shots and Filippa Graneld with three. UHH's solo goal that was knocked in by Kanellou was her only shot of the game and her first goal of the 2021 season.

UHH keeper Viviana Poli had an excellent performance in the net recording her third shutout of the season. Poli totaled two saves. Her first save was in the first half and the second was a minute after Kanellou's goal late in the second half.

UHH plays Biola next on Thursday, Oct. 21 at 12 p.m. If you are planning on attending the next match, please read the Vulcan spectator policy carefully before attending.
