FRESNO, Calif.-- Junior transfer
Daelenn Tokunaga scored the game-winning goal to complete the Vulcans'Â 3-2 comeback victory over Fresno Pacific on Tuesday night at Ramirez Field.Â
Â
UH Hilo (5-3, and 2-1 in the PacWest) was down 2-0 and came back to take a 3-2 win over the Sunbirds (0-8, and 0-3 in the PacWest) with three consecutive goals in the 36th, 54th, and 64th minutes.
Â
Tokunaga was responsible for two of the Vulcans' three goals, both of which were solo shots. Tokunaga's first goal was to the low center of the net and the second was to the upper center. This is Tokunaga's third time scoring two goals in a game, and she leads the PacWest in goals scored totaling eight for this season.Â
Â
Sandwiched in the middle was a goal by
Jordyn Pacheco. Pacheco struck a good ball from
Filippa Graneld past FPU's goalkeeper to make the Vulcans' second goal of the match, tying up the game 2-2. This is Pacheco's second goal of the season, her first was
scored earlier in the week against Holy Names.Â
Â
The Vulcans out-shot the Sunbirds 20-8. UH Hilo's shot leaders were Tokunaga with five, followed by Graneld and
Alyssa Padron with four apiece.
Viviana Poli led the Vulcans in the goal. Poli played the entire 90 minutes, accumulating four saves. FPU's goalie Brigitta Eggertsdottir racked up six saves, doing her best to ward off the Vulcans' attacks.
Â
UHH will continue their NorCal road trip. Their next match is against Academy of Art which will take place Friday, Oct. 8 at 10 a.m. PT.
