SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.-- Tensions were high in the second half as both UH Hilo and ART U were looking to break the scoreless match. And in the 79th minute,
Daelenn Tokunaga was able to do just that. Tokunaga made a break for the goal, dribbling into the box, and sent a hard shot to the left of the Urban Knights goalkeeper that sunk in to give UHH the 1-0 lead, which was the eventual final score.Â
Â
Tokunaga was responsible for
two of the Vulcans goals in their 3-2 win over Fresno Pacific earlier this week and is the PacWest goal scoring leader with nine goals for this season.Â
Â
UHH is now on a three-game winning streak and will improve their overall record to 6-3 and their PacWest record 3-1. Academy of Art will fall 1-4-2, and 0-3 in the PacWest.Â
Â
The Vulcans dominated control of the ball and out-shot the Urban Knights 21-7, 10 of which were on goal to ART U's five. The Vulcan shot leader was
Filippa Graneld with nine, four of which were on goal. UHH also had 10 corner kicks to ART U's three. The Red and Black played aggressively, being called for 12 fouls.Â
Â
Viviana Poli had five saves in the match. Two saves were after Tokunaga's goal, which was big time in securing the Vulcans' win.Â
Â
The Vulcans will play next Sunday, Oct. 10 at Dominican. The match is set to begin at 12 p.m. PT and will close UH Hilo's Northern California road trip.Â
