AIEA, Hawai`i--Each Hawai`i Hilo golfer made improvements from round one to round two to highlight play for the Vulcans at the Pearl Collegiate Classic this weekend at the Pearl Country Club.
The Vulcans improved seven strokes, from 360 to 353 at the tournament hosted by Hawai`i Pacific. University of Hawai`i won the two-day tourney at +41 (312-305), followed by the Sharks (327-331) at +82. UHH's final tally was +137.
Kaelyn Uchida's was UHH's tournament leader at +25 (85-84), followed by
Tia Kualii (+33),
Kasumi Goto (+34) and
Tori Hironaga (+45). Kualii had a pair of birdies over the 36 holes.
Monica Johnson broke away from Rainbow Wahine teammate Zoey Akagi-Bustin to take medalist honors. The two UH players were tied after the first day, but Johnson took the crown on day two with a 74-75 tally (+5). Akagi-Bustin finished two strokes back (74-77) at +7. HPU's Cameron Kaneshiro finished in third place at +11 (79-76).
