Tani Hoke had another solid weekend as her Vulcan volleyball team ran off four more wins against their Hawaii counterparts, this time at Chaminade. In the PacWest #3 tournament, the Kailua native and Maryknoll alumnae had a total of 69 digs in four matches, zipped in four aces and passed well. In the tournament opening 3-0 win over Hawaii Pacific, Hoke had 20 digs and three aces, and she also had 19 digs the following day against the Sharks. On the season, the 5-foot-3 defensive specialist has 16 aces and a team-best 236 digs, and her 4.93 digs per set ranks fourth in the PacWest Conference.
Christian Sadler was nearly perfect last weekend in earning the men's Pepsi Athlete of the Week award. On Saturday against Hawaii Pacific, making his first start on the mound this season, the senior righthander had a no-hitter through seven innings of a scoreless game. He walked a batter in the third and then again in the fifth, but otherwise it was three up and three down for the Sharks inning after inning. Finally, in extra innings, he gave up a home run in the top of the eighth but his teammates scored twice in the bottom half to get UHH and Sadler the 2-1 win. He finished with a one-hitter with two walks and five strikeouts. On the season the Hercules, Calif. native is 3-0 with a 1.20 ERA. He has given up just five hits in 15 innings of work.
