LOUISVILLE, Kentucky--UH Hilo senior pitcher
Leah Gonzales has been named to the NFCA Coaches All-West Region Second Team, announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association office yesterday.
Gonzales was one of only six pitchers selected to the First and Second teams (three on each). She was the only Vulcan honored this spring. There is one more all-west region team (D2CAA), which will be announced next week.
Gonzales currently has a 7-2 win-loss record with a sparkling ERA of 1.75. Her regular season ERA of 1.28 was tops in the Pacific West Conference. The Wilmington, Calif. native, who did not play in UH HIlo's first six games, tossed 12 shutout innings on the same day in her second and third appearances of the season (against Chaminade). Opponents are hitting just .235 against her this season.
Gonzales and her teammates are now anxiously awaiting Sunday's NCAA Selection Show to see if their season will continue next week at the NCAA West Region Championships in Irvine, Calif. The show will air at 4 pm Hawaii Time at ncaa.com.
