Chalk up another award for UH Hilo senior pitcher Leah Gonzales, whose Vulcan team plays in the NCAA West Region Softball Championships today.

Gonzales, who last week was named to the NFCA All-West Region Second Team, was selected to the D2CCA All-West Region Second Team today. The Wilmington, Calif. native was the only Vulcan to be honored. 

Gonzales currently has a 7-2 win-loss record with a sparkling ERA of 1.75. Her regular season ERA of 1.28 was tops in the Pacific West Conference. Gonzales, who did not play in UH HIlo's first six games, tossed 12 shutout innings on the same day in her second and third appearances of the season (against Chaminade). Opponents are hitting just .235 against her this season.

The Vulcans open regional play today as the #5 seed against #4 seed Western Washington, where they will face the West Region Pitcher of the Year, Anna Kasner. A win advances them in the winner's bracket to play on Thursday, while a loss would mean that they play an elimination game later in the day on Wednesday.
