IRVINE, California – Point Loma picked up four points in the PacWest men's soccer race, while Hawai'i Hilo, Hawai'i Pacific and Dominican kept just off that pace with 1-0 records (three points) last week. UH Hilo freshman Koki Hamada scored twice and Dominican's Alejandro Reyes kept a lot of shots out of the goal to highlight action this past week.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
HAWAI'I HILO'S KOKI HAMADA, D, 6-2, FR., KITA, JAPAN
Hawai'i Hilo hosted Fresno Pacific in a shootout last week, and Vulcan freshman defender Koki Hamada provided a lot of the offense in the 3-3 draw. After the Sunbirds built a 2-0 lead, the Japan native scored the next two UHH scores to draw even at 2-2 — one on a penalty kick and another on a shot just after the second half began.
Hamada and the Vulcans are one of the surprise teams in the PacWest this year with a 2-1-1 league mark and they are 3-4-4 overall under first-year coach Garrett Estrin.
On the season, Hamada has four goals and eight points, third on the UH Hilo squad.
