Bandur's Early Goal Lifts Vulcans Past Chaminade

HONOLULU, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Hilo Men's Soccer persevered and played through the last 50 minutes with one less player while getting a 1-0 victory result over Chaminade on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference matchup at the Saint Louis School Field.

Kristijan Bandur scored the match's only goal in the 18th minute after taking the ball down field and finishing up on a feed inside to Kanilau Tolentino-Perry and Keita Goto to find the back of the net.

"I went 1-v-1, then past another (defender), saw (Tolentino-Perry and Goto) running in and tried to play 1-2. It kind of bounced off and I was lucky to be there and finished it," Bandur said.

Shortly before halftime, Vulcans goalkeeper Tate Glock was shown a red card in the 41st minute for using his hands to stop a kicked ball outside the penalty area that was deemed to be denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity. Senior Diego Bastias entered and preserved the clean sheet with the Vulcans playing a man down the rest of the way.

Hawai'i Hilo tallied seven shots-on-goal to just three by the Silverswords. Chaminade nearly converted for a late-game equalizer in the 87th minute but clanked the attempt off the top crossbar.

"Hard game. First away one. Not in front of our fans. Luckily we scored quick," Bandur said. "It was a tough game because we went man down in the first half. Proud of the boys. We kept it collected and calmly brought it to an end."
