HONOLULU, Hawai'i – Round two of Pacific West Conference play got started on O'ahu for the Hawai'i Hilo women's volleyball team as the Vulcans fell to Hawai'i Pacific in straight sets, 21-25, 19-25, 23-25, Saturday afternoon at The Shark Tank.
The Vulcans hit .113 with 24 hitting errors as the Sharks managed just 12 errors for a .226 hitting percentage.
Up front, the Sharks totaled eight blocks with the Vulcans notching just three.
Sets No. 1 and 2 were close affairs until HPU managed to pull away in the latter half of the frames.
The third set went down to the wire as Hawai'i Hilo rallied for four consecutive scores to take a 23-22 lead, but the Sharks nabbed the final three points to close out the win.
Nikki Logan (Huntington Beach, Calif./Edison HS) led the Vulcans with 10 kills as Samara Cruz (Escondido, Calif./Escondido HS) followed with seven to go along with a pair of service aces.
Tani Hoke (Kailua, Hawai'i/Maryknoll School) tallied 13 digs and is now just four away from reaching 1,000 in her career.
What's Next
Hawai'i Hilo fell to 1-14 overall and 1-8 in PacWest Conference play while Hawai'i Pacific improved to an identical 1-8 PacWest record (1-14 overall).
The Vulcans will be back in Honolulu tomorrow for a matchup with Chaminade (8-0 PacWest, 13-6 overall). The two teams previously met in early September with the Silverswords winning in three sets.
The Sharks host Dominican on Thursday.
