HILO, Hawai'i – The Hawai'i Hilo women's cross country team is set to compete in the 2022 Pacific West Conference Cross Country Championships this Saturday, Nov. 5 at the Oyster Bay Regional Shoreline Course in San Leandro, California.
Academy of Art is the host school as the Vulcans will be competing against the Urban Knights, Azusa Pacific, Biola, Chaminade, Concordia University Irvine, Dominican, Fresno Pacific, Hawai'i Pacific, Holy Names and Point Loma Nazarene.
Hawai'i Hilo competed in four in-state meets this season before traveling to Washington last month for the NCAA D2 Pre-Nationals at Chambers Creek Regional Park.
Emma Heidelmeier (Pagosa Springs, Colorado/Pagosa Springs HS) has been the leading runner for the Vulcans throughout the season followed closely by Summer Corke (South Haven, Michigan/South Haven HS), Lauren Runnels (Beaverton, Oregon/Southridge HS), Sabina Boo-Rivera (Kea'au, Hawai'i/Kea'au HS), Aurea Streadbeck (Ewa Beach, Hawai'i/James Campbell HS) and Lily Gavagan (Pukalani, Hawai'i/Kamehameha Schools Maui). Heidelmeier, Corke and Runnels have each logged three top 10 finishes this year.
PacWest Championships
The women's 6K race is set to start at 10 a.m. local Pacific Time (7 a.m. Hawai'i Time) followed by the awards ceremony at 11 a.m. The top 21 finishers will earn All-PacWest honors.
Academy of Art is the defending team champion after placing back-to-back individual winners with Hasna Kaarour in 2019 and Natalia Novak in 2021.
Hawai'i Hilo and 23rd-year head coach Jaime Guerpo last took home the conference title with back-to-back wins in 2006 and 2007.
